THE HOLY SPIRIT IS POWERFUL
“But as for me, I am filled with power, with the Spirit of the LORD, and with justice and might, to declare to Jacob his transgression and to Israel his sin.” —Micah 3:8
DEVOTION
One of my favorite Marvel superheroes is Iron Man. Tony Stark is witty, brilliant, and undeniably flawed.
But for Tony Stark to become Iron Man, he needs a power he does not possess within himself. The glowing arc reactor in his chest keeps him alive while powering his suit. Without it, he cannot do what Iron Man was created to do.
He needs power beyond himself.
The same is true for us. We cannot live the Christian life in our own strength. We need the power of the Holy Spirit.
In Micah 3:8, the prophet Micah contrasts his Spirit-empowered ministry with the corrupt leaders of his day:
“But as for me, I am filled with power, with the Spirit of the LORD…”
Micah understood that the courage and strength he needed did not originate within him. The Holy Spirit empowered him to stand for truth, confront sin, and faithfully declare God’s Word. Micah became a bold witness for God in his generation because the Spirit was at work in him.
The same Holy Spirit empowers us to be witnesses for Jesus in ours.
Before ascending into heaven, Jesus told His disciples:
“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses…” —Acts 1:8
The Greek word translated “power” is dynamis, meaning power, strength, or ability. It is the root behind English words such as dynamic and dynamite. Jesus was promising His disciples divine power to accomplish what they could never do on their own. And that is exactly what happened.
The disciples who had once been fearful became courageous witnesses for Jesus. Empowered by the Holy Spirit, they proclaimed the gospel and carried it from Jerusalem to the ends of the earth.
Just as the Spirit empowered Micah to speak God’s truth in his generation, He empowers us to share the good news of Jesus in ours.
The Christian life is not about trying harder in our own strength; it is about relying more fully on His.
Where do you need power beyond yourself today?
Surrender that area to the Holy Spirit and ask Him to work powerfully in and through you.

PRAYER
Holy Spirit, thank You for being the source of power I need to walk out my faith in Jesus. Forgive me for relying on my own strength. Fill me with Your power today. Give me strength to resist temptation, courage to stand for truth, and boldness to witness the good news of Jesus to those around me. In Jesus’ name, amen.
